Good things come in small packages. This relatively short book is a very handy resource for anyone seeking to learn about missions. But don't let it's brevity fool you - there are footnotes and full-color photographs. Probably it's greatest influence will come through assisting students as they wrestle with future opportunities in going to the world. The history of missions is more understandable. Current obstacles to going are clearly identified. Shane Sebastian has written well. His heart is in this. This Change is Everything is user-friendly and very personal.
I loved this book by Shane Sebastian. He's done a great deal of work to show how important the role young people have played in missions over the centuries. It's incredible to see how many missions movements have been started by people under the age of 25. You want to join in and help change the world? Then join in the missions movement that Shane Sebastian explains in this book. Also included are insights into overcoming barriers to joining the missions movement and cool stories from around the world. I would highly recommend this book and encourage it's wide use among young people considering missions - or anyone interested in helping people go to the world.
Simply one of the best books on the topic of reaching people for Christ that I've ever read. Dr. Sebastian's walk through the history of student evangelistic movements and how young people can impact the world for Christ is a clarion call to step out in faith with the gospel. His up close and personal accounts of sharing his own faith around the world give credibility to his challenge to share Jesus with others and make This Change is Everything a fast paced and enjoyable read. I'm putting Dr. Sebastian's book on my gift list for every high school and college graduate I know.
I've always thought that there's no one more motivating than Shane Sebastian. Maybe that's why I married him 21 1/2 years ago. This book is full of motivation through countless stories, biblical truths, historical perspective, and years of ministry experience. Young people get a bad rap in many books and news stories nowadays--this book might prove to you that God hasn't given up on any generation, and in fact may have an extra special plan for this current one. No matter what your age, I think you'll be encouraged by reading this book.
Great read! In an engaging style, Dr. Sebastian gives an overview of how God has used teenage and young 20 somethings in the history of the Church and its missionary efforts. He makes a clear and compelling case for this demographic being THE driving force in mission history. Dr. Sebastian also addresses some of the barriers to going that college aged students and recent college grads face. Having lived his life on mission, Dr. Sebastian brings great ethos to the conversation. I particularly enjoyed his handling of "Discerning the will of God" in chapter 10. Concise, practical, and thoroughly Biblical, this book is must read for any Christian.
In a short 100 pages, Shane Sebastian makes a compelling case from the Bible, church history, and stories from his personal experience, that young people have always been, and will always be, game changers in the fulfillment of the Great Commission. Through a direct, no nonsense approach, he tackles the key barriers that prevent many students from pursuing missionary work and gives practical advice to clear those hurdles. I love the chapter on discerning God's will as he breaks down common misconceptions that paralyze young people from taking action. I would not hesitate to recommend this book to any student who desires to follow Jesus more wholeheartedly.
Having seen Shane speak numerous times, and having the privilege of hearing his passion for young people and how they can change the world... I was very excited to read this book. Shane does a great job sharing Biblical truths and personal experiences to remind the reader of God's calling on our lives, and how to navigate distractions and obstacles we often face. Although I'm sure this book is mostly relatable to young adults processing or thinking about missions work. Shane also did an excellent job of writing to a broader audience, encouraging parents and older generations alike to mobilize and support the future world changers. It's a short read, and flows nicely -- I would definitely add it to your library.
